Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read, roughly where visitors come from (country and city level), what kind of device and browser they use, and how they found the site. It works by setting cookies in your browser and sending that information to Google.

I use these numbers to decide what to write next and which pages need work. I don't use them to identify you, I don't combine them with other data about you, and I don't use Google's advertising features.

How to opt out

• Install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
• Block or clear cookies for this site in your browser settings.
• Use a browser or extension that blocks trackers. The site works the same either way.

Server logs

Like almost every website, the server that hosts this site keeps standard logs of requests: IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser's user-agent string. These are used for security and troubleshooting, and are kept by the hosting provider under its own retention rules.

Email

If you email me, I'll have your email address and whatever you wrote. I use it to reply to you, and I don't add you to any mailing list or share it with anyone.

What I don't do

I don't sell or rent personal information, run ads, or ask you to create an account. The site doesn't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Links to other sites

Guides link to other websites, like Microsoft's support pages or stores that sell parts. Once you leave this site, their privacy policies apply, not this one.

Changes

If this policy changes, for example if I add a newsletter or affiliate links, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
